Hunters, Warriors, Battleborn… This is what makes up a Bjorn-Claw. The warriors of the Clan Bjorn-Claw have made their presence known for centuries as vindictive, brutal soldiers of the Forest of the Ancients. They Bjorn-Claws are strong allies, but do not take kind to those who are not within their tight-knit group of friends. They are a mix of Old Norse/Scandinavian mythology and Dwarvish personality, mixed in with Orcish habits.
Leadership:
Since the birth of the clan, there has always been a Jarl, a man or woman to lead the forces of the Clan to great adventures and quests. The Jarl has many duties, such as keeping the peace within the Clan, and ensuring relations with the other tribes are met. The Clan has served their Jarl by a pact of honor, and show it by a silver bracelet that takes to their left wrist. The most famous Jarl would be Jarl Njal Bjorn-Claw, literally translating to ‘Champion Bjorn-Claw’. He was the Jarl that led his forces to the war against the Tribes of the South, and was the one to reclaim the Halls of Akai, long forgotten ruins within the Forest of the Ancients.
The current Jarl, Axel Bjorn-Claw, leads with a promise to retake the lands that the Clan had lost long ago; the Mouth of the Sea. A land cursed by the Tribe of the Wyverns and their draconic god, now of which has become infested with carnivorous creatures and hostile entities.
Government:
Led by a Jarl, the Clan follows in honor. However, the Jarl cannot lead alone, so in place, he has a High Priestess and a Battlemaster. The High Priestess foretells the comings of time, and blesses the warriors with the Kiss of Akai. She trains the women too weak to fight on how to properly tend to wounds, and speaks the will of Akai to the Jarl and his people. The current High-Priestess is Ezra Wolf-Hook.
The Battlemaster aids the Jarl and his people with the militarization of the Bjorn-Claw’s, and aids in overseeing the war efforts the Tribe may require. He ensures that the supplies created by the blacksmiths are made correctly, and that shipments to the other tribes are handled swiftly. The current Battlemaster is Borzak the Strong, a brutal and cunning man.
Below these two are small time enforcers of the will of the Jarl. They are men entrusted in keeping law and authority in place.
Location:
Once proud and established river-people, the Clan now lives deep in the Redwood Forest, the Forest of the Ancients, amongst the trees. There was a time, in the beginning of Teodor's creation of Te'rus, that the Bjorn-Claw people lived amongst the trees, and in that time, they established the Halls of Akai, a religious sanctuary and holy grounds that held rich minerals and great power. Now, the Clan lives just west of these halls, and use their minerals to forge great weapons and armor.
Philosophy:
Centric around battle and conflict, the Bjorn-Claw’s have always been ‘that’ tribe within the relations of the great six tribes of ‘The Ark’. However, one thing that has kept the Bjorn-Claw’s in good graces with the world is that they are more sensible and cooperative than the Tribe of the Wyvern’s. The Clan has been an enemy at one point in history, but has since been an ally for over a century with the tribes of the South. The Clan seeks adventure, comradeship, and the ‘Great Hunt’ over all others.
Encountering a Bjorn-Claw would show that they are blunt, head strong warriors. Willing to give their life to a brother of the sword, they would rather die in a fight than cowering away. The Clan houses some of the most brilliant minded souls, and some of the stupidest. Where they are not skilled with a blade, they are skilled with a hammer and nail, or a forge-hammer. The Bjorn-Claw’s, however, do have their share of men and women who would be considered the ‘runts’. Some members of the Clan were not born as physically built, but intellectually so instead. Outcasted for their brains over brawn, many of the Clan do not take them in as a brother or sister. However, that is not to say ALL Bjorn-Claw’s reject their intellectually minded brethren.
Religion:
Clan Bjorn-Claw believes in five major gods, Akai, Ragnvald, Vilmar, and Teodor and Kennet.
Akai is the Goddess of the Blade. She guides those who worship her into battle, and returns them home victorious, either to their earthly villages, or to the heavenly realm of Kyrus. Akai wanders the lands of Te’rus as the embodiment of a wyvern kissed by fire, or that of a Dire Bear, blessed by the earth. Akai is what many Bjorn-Claw’s pray to in times of need.
Ragnvald is the god of the sea and of the water. Men and women pray to him when the crops are dry, and water is needed. They pray to him for mercy when facing his mighty tidal waves of the ocean. The Bjorn-Claw’s believe that he controls and prophesizes the will of every creature within the waters of Te’rus.
Vilmar is the god of the wind. A cunning and shady god, the weakest and seediest of his fellow gods. He seeks to trick and lie to those who may listen to his words that float through the wind. He sways the will of those that take to the sky, should they not sacrifice a physical entity in the name of his wrath. Those who take to the skies are believed to be cursed by Vilmar’s gaze, and some Bjorn-Claw’s believe that Vilmar seeks to use the creatures of the sky against the world.
Teodor is the god of the earth, the embodiment of all things living. Married to the goddess Akai, Teodor graces his presence upon that of man by the appearance of the fabled Gigantasaurous, a predator of the tundra’s. He was the entity to create the Forest, and the entity to create the sea beds. Without Teodor, Ragnvald would have no space for his realm of reigning. Teodor’s kingdom takes to the mountain, beyond the treetops and in the distance.
*Kennet is the god born of fire, the arch angel cast away into exile by his peers. He is the god prophesized to bring Armageddon to Te’rus, and destroy all life, in the embodiment of a Wyvern charred black by the flames of the core of Te’rus. Kennet is worshiped HEAVILY by the Tribe of the Wyverns, believing that Kennet will bring his hand to them, and give them the tools to destroy the tribes that cast them out for their ‘superiority’.
*The prophesy of Ysmagni foresees that in the coming years of man, a great battle between the gods will emerge. The Chosen of Akai will take to the ground and bring chaos to the minions of Kennet, while the forces of the sea will perish into the flames of the wyvern. The followers of Vilmar will flee to the mountains of Erakar, and the warriors of Teodor will join the Chosen of Akai in battle. Those who survive will return perfected and destroyed, a bitter contradiction. Should the forces of Kennet succeed, the whole of Te’rus shall burn.
Appearance:
Most Bjorn-Claw’s look to be of similar appearance, as many of them herald beards, dark hair, blue or green eyes, and dark colored hair. Due to their craving for adventure and battle, they keep their bodies in fit condition, some going further than required on their physical appearance. It is tradition for a Bjorn-Claw to take on some symbolic tattoo upon their coming of age, regardless of their principles, ideals, and philosophies.
Metal and hide armor cling to the bodies of the Bjorn-Claw’s, and they take on swords and pikes, weapons and armor forged in their own blacksmith forges and fires. Axes and shields are used as well, alongside ranged weaponry for aerial defenses.
